Built on the same platform as the Harley-Davidson X440, the Mavrick 440 was Hero’s entry into the modern classic motorcycle segment. However, unlike the Harley X440 — which has performed consistently well — the Mavrick struggled in the market from the start.
In FY2025, Hero sold just 3,214 units of the Mavrick 440, compared to 8,974 units of the Harley X440. By January 2025, sales had dropped to just over 50 units, and since April 2025, sales have been in single digits or nil. In the last three months, no units have been produced or shipped.
Media reports attribute the bike’s failure to weak marketing, uninspiring styling, and lack of aspirational value. Although priced between ₹2.00 lakh and ₹2.25 lakh (ex-showroom), many felt the Mavrick didn’t offer the premium feel expected in that segment.
CNBC-TV18 has reached out to Hero MotoCorp for an official statement, but has not received a response at the time of publishing.
Despite its commercial failure, the Mavrick 440 was well-reviewed for its performance. It featured a 440cc single-cylinder engine (27 BHP, 36 Nm), 6-speed gearbox with assist and slipper clutch, comfortable suspension, and city-friendly handling.
It also came with LED lights, metal body parts, and neo-retro styling. However, these strengths weren’t enough to overcome its market challenges.
The Mavrick 440’s discontinuation also frees up space for Hero to focus on the Harley-Davidson X440 and possibly introduce new models on the same platform. While the Mavrick remains listed on Hero’s website for now, it is no longer available through most dealers.
