Nakajima began working at Honda in 1994 and has over 30 years of experience. He has held roles in business planning, product planning, marketing, and sales promotion in countries like Japan, China, Spain, Czech Republic, and Russia, according to HCIL.
Since 2021, he has been President of Honda Motor Russia and has also managed product planning, marketing, and corporate communication for Honda’s car business in Japan.
While Tsumura led HCIL, the company made notable progress and helped bring new models like the Honda City e:HEV, the first mainstream hybrid in India, the Elevate SUV, and the All New 3rd Generation Amaze.
He also set the stage for upcoming launches, including Honda’s first electric vehicle for India, the company added. Tsumura will head back to Honda’s main office in Japan after three years in India.
Under Tsumura, exports grew by 65.4% to 37,660 units, with the Elevate now shipped to Japan, HCIL data shows. Total sales increased by 8.8% to 124,244 units, the highest in five years, while revenue rose 16% to Rs 16,461 crore and profit before tax climbed 25% to Rs 1,029 crore.
Honda plans to kick off its electric vehicle push in India next financial year, with an electric version of the Elevate SUV, two hybrid models, and a compact electric vehicle project called ACE, aiming for 50-70% of its output for export, the company outlined.
HCIL currently sells the Amaze, City, and Elevate, with 53,081 units sold in India and 50,866 exported from April to January this financial year, giving it a 1.5% market share.
