
Flagship Superbike Launch: Honda has launched its flagship superbike, the CBR1000RR-R Fireblade SP, in India at a price of ₹28.99 lakh (ex-showroom). This marks the return of Honda’s litre-class supersport model to the Indian market in its premium SP specification. The Fireblade has been developed with inputs from Honda Racing Corporation and incorporates technology adapted from the brand’s MotoGP racing program.

Powerful Engine Output: At the core of the Honda CBR1000RR-R Fireblade SP is a 999cc, liquid-cooled, inline four-cylinder engine. The motor produces 217.5 hp at 14,500 rpm and 113 Nm of torque at 12,500 rpm. It is paired with a six-speed gearbox featuring a bi-directional quickshifter and electronic ride-by-wire throttle. These output figures remain the same as the previous model sold in India in 2022.

Advanced Frame Design: The Fireblade SP uses a lightweight aluminium diamond frame combined with a MotoGP-inspired long swingarm for sharp handling. The SP variant is suspended by electronically adjustable Öhlins EC 3.0 forks at the front and an Öhlins rear shock absorber. These high-spec components aim to provide track-ready suspension performance while allowing adjustments electronically for different riding conditions.

Aerodynamic Styling Features: The motorcycle sports aggressive bodywork, including fairings with MotoGP-derived aero winglets designed to improve stability. It is also equipped with a full-colour TFT display providing access to key riding information. Electronic aids managed by a six-axis IMU include traction control, wheelie control, engine braking, and launch control. These systems help riders customise performance levels across road and track environments.

Braking Performance Setup: For stopping power, the Fireblade SP relies on twin 330mm discs with Brembo Stylema callipers at the front and a 220mm disc at the rear. The superbike rides on 17-inch wheels, shod with 120-section front and 200-section rear tyres, enhancing grip and handling stability. This braking and tyre combination aims to match the high power output with precise control.

Rival Superbike Market: The Honda CBR1000RR-R Fireblade SP competes in India’s litre-class superbike segment against key rivals. The BMW S 1000 RR is priced between ₹20.75 lakh and ₹25.25 lakh, offering comparable performance at a lower price. Kawasaki’s ZX-10R, in its 2026 version, costs ₹19.49 lakh, making it the most affordable litre-class entry. At the premium end, Ducati’s Panigale V4 ranges from ₹30 lakh to ₹36.50 lakh.

Pricing and Positioning: Honda’s Fireblade SP is priced higher than its Japanese competitors but undercuts the Italian offering. The Kawasaki ZX-10R is the cheapest, the BMW S 1000 RR sits in the mid-range, while Ducati’s Panigale V4 remains the costliest. Honda positions the Fireblade SP strategically between these options, providing a balance of MotoGP-inspired technology and premium performance credentials at ₹28.99 lakh.

Return to India: The reintroduction of the Fireblade SP represents Honda’s effort to strengthen its presence in India’s superbike market. The model had last been sold in 2022 before being withdrawn. This relaunch, with no changes in engine output but upgraded electronic features and equipment, targets riders seeking advanced track performance. The SP variant remains Honda’s most track-focused litre-class motorcycle offering in the country.
