Škoda Auto Volkswagen India hits 500,000-engine milestone at Pune’s Chakan plant

Škoda Auto Volkswagen India Private Limited (SAVWIPL), on Monday, announced it has produced its 500,000th engine at its Chakan facility in Pune. This milestone shows the company’s support for the Indian government’s ‘Make in India’ program, which promotes local manufacturing.

The Chakan plant, operational since 2014, supplies engines to both Indian and international markets. As per the company, it focuses on eco-friendly production and modern technology, matching the Volkswagen Group’s goals worldwide.

Andreas Dick, Board Member for Production and Logistics at Škoda Auto a.s., said: “Producing 500,000 engines at our Pune facility is a significant milestone, reinforcing India’s role in our global manufacturing network. Our investments in technology and workforce development continue to enhance our production capabilities, ensuring high-quality and cost-effective powertrains.”


Piyush Arora, Managing Director & CEO of SAVWIPL, stated: “This milestone highlights our commitment to localization and innovation in powertrain manufacturing. Since 2014, we have built a strong foundation, evolving to meet market needs with world-class engines.”

The facility makes engines like the 1.0-litre TSI, which uses advanced exhaust emission technology, and the 1.5-litre TSI with Active Cylinder Technology (ACT). These engines help reduce pollution and improve fuel efficiency, claims SAVWIPL.
